District 7 Director - Gina Barrier
Biographical Information
Gina Barrier joined NCSSM as Director of Summer Programs and Extended Partnerships Morganton in February 2022. Prior to NCSSM, Gina conducted teacher professional development for The Science House of NC State University for over two decades. She has experience writing grants and administering programs that involve data-collection technology, robotics, coding, VR/AR technology, 3D printers, and other makerspace technologies using inquiry-based pedagogy including project-based learning. She received her bachelor’s in chemistry from Lenoir-Rhyne University and her master’s in educational media/instructional technology from Appalachian State University. She has taught high school Chemistry, AP Chemistry, and Physics and worked as an industrial chemist. Gina has presented at conferences across the country and has won multiple awards from NCSU, ACS, Hibriten High, and Rotary. She has also served the NC Science Leadership Association NCSLA as President, Membership Committee Chair, and Secretary. In 2019, NCSLA presented her with the Michael C. Jackson Distinguished Service Award for outstanding service to STEM education.
