Biographical Information

Jennifer was first inspired to pursue a career in education at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. After taking courses with peers across the state of North Carolina, she realized the educational divide between urban and rural communities in the state. Jennifer attended East Carolina University, where she graduated with a bachelor's in middle grades education. While completing her bachelor's, she was a North Carolina Space Grant STEM Pre-Service Teacher Scholarship recipient, where she studied the relationship between science and language. After graduating, she began her career as a middle school science teacher in Pitt and Greene counties. During this time, she was named a 2015-2016 Kenan Fellow and graduated from ECU with her master's in middle grades education. She now serves as the K-12 Science Curriculum Specialist and District STEM Coordinator for Pitt County Schools. She earned her Ed.D in Educational Leadership with a focus in Curriculum and Instruction from UNCW in 2021.

Jennifer's mission is to work collaboratively with education stakeholders to provide equitable access to STEM resources for students in rural North Carolina.
