TIES Wokshop through the Greensboro Science Center |
When: June 27, 2026 Where: Greensboro Science Center Times: 8:45am-12:45pm Audience: Middle and High School Teachers Details: Join the Teacher Institute for Evolutionary Science, TIES, for a half-day, hands-on professional development workshop at the Greensboro Science Center on Saturday, June 27, from 8:45 AM to 12:45 PM. This workshop is geared toward middle and high school science teachers and is designed to meet and exceed North Carolina’s evolution standards. Non-formal educators are also welcome. Participants will explore engaging, classroom-ready activities focused on evolution, natural selection, phylogeny, human evolution, and scientific thinking through interactive labs, station rotations, online investigations, and collaborative discussions. The workshop also includes a brief introduction to the ScienceSaves and Generation Skeptics programs, which equip educators with tools to teach critical thinking, identify misinformation, and promote public understanding of science. Teachers will leave with dozens of free, standards-aligned resources, lesson plans, and digital activities that can be immediately implemented in classrooms and educational programs. Each participant will receive a copy of the TIES book On Teaching Evolution, as well as A Brief History of Four Billion Years of Evolution. A Certificate for 4 contact hours will be issued at the end of the workshop and can be submitted towards CEUs or Criteria III EE Credit. Participants are invited to stay and explore the Greensboro Science Center after the workshop. $5 Registration is required and includes a light breakfast. Spaces are limited.
