Sixty Symbols
a You Tube channel devoted to those funny letters and squiggles used by physicists and astronomers. Also at http://www.sixtysymbols.com/
Look for videos about what they mean and how they're used - plus other interesting stuff about physics and astronomy. They aren't lessons or lectures - just fun chats with men and women who love the subject and know a lot about it!
PhysicsQuest
PhysicsQuest is a middle school competition that consists of four physical science experiments centered on a mystery. The experiments are designed to be done by small groups in a classroom or after school setting. Each of the experiments gives students a clue that they need to solve the mystery. Classes can submit their answers online and be entered into a random drawing for prizes. PhysicsQuest kits are provided free to registered classrooms.
The Physics Front
is an online library of physics and astronomy resources whose goal is to provide enhanced accessibility to peer-reviewed quality physics teaching resources for all pre-college teachers of physics and the physical sciences with special support for new and "cross-over" teachers of all levels of science. The collection contains references, lesson plans, activities, labs, assessments and best teaching practices all searchable by subject and course type. Users can also contribute to this dynamic and growing online physics teacher community by sharing, accessing and archiving exemplary teacher-designed materials.
Physics To Go
is a collection of more than 550 carefully selected online resources for informal physics learning, and it has great potential value for teachers as well. The homepage features "Physics in Your World" and "From Physics Research" present striking images, with links to related sites that discuss the physics, and both features can be useful as examples of the application of physics concepts. Past features, including more than 60 images, are archived.
Optics for Kids
The Optical Society of America (OSA) is pleased to announce a newly designed website devoted to helping educators, parents, and students discover the exciting world of physics through the science of optics. The interactive website features experiments and tutorials, an optics timeline, optical illusions, terms and definitions, career profiles, and educator resources.
Electricity
This site is about electricity, electronics, electromagnetism and electrochemistry patents, inventors, inventions and discoveries. It’s divided into phenomena, theories, components, devices, inventions, inventors and Nobel Prize winners (contributions to electro sciences).
Physics Education Technology (PhET)
produces fun, interactive simulations of physical phenomena. More than 35 simulations let students experiment with circuits, string tension, kinetic & potential energy, radios waves & electromagnetic fields, balloons & static electricity, ideal gas & buoyancy, velocity & acceleration, sound waves & the Doppler effect, & more.
