.2005 Summer Science Leadership Institute For High School Teachers and Supervisors
July 11-14, 2005
NC School of Science & Mathematics, Durham

Focus:
This year the focus will be on the Newly Revised 2004 Standard Course of Study for Science and new support materials for Biology, Chemistry, Earth/ Environmental Science, Physical Science, and Physics. Assessment will also be addressed. School Districts are encouraged to send a team of teachers and/or a science supervisor representing the different high school courses with the expectation that these participants will provide updates for all science teachers in their district. Smaller school districts may wish to cooperate to send a regional team.

Setting:
The Science Leadership Institute will be held at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, NC. A map and directions are available at http://www.ncssm.edu/visitors/directions.php Dress is informal and participants should come prepared to be active participants in science activities including some outdoor field activities. (Bring sunscreen, bug repellant, good walking shoes, etc). The indoor computer lab can be very chilly please bring a sweater or light jacket for air-conditioned rooms.

Accommodations:
We will be staying in the high school student dormitory rooms at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. These rooms are very basic. Linins, fans, phones etc are NOT provided. Bathrooms are shared. Handicapped rooms are available * please let us know in advance what your needs are. NO outside guests, including family members can be accommodated on campus.

Cost:
Single dorm room $350 (includes materials, all meals and breaks except Tuesday dinner)
Commuters $300 (includes materials, lunches, breaks and dinners except Tuesday dinner)
Substitution: Substitutions of one participant for another will be accommodated when possible. If this involves a change in room arrangements the substitution must be checked with us in advance. This is especially important if you substitute a male for a female or vice versa. Please call Susan Hart at 919-807-3846.
