Outstanding Science Educator in North Carolina
Michael
Conoly Jackson

Mike Jackson has been
a leader in science education in North Carolina for 3 decades. He started
as a biology and horticulture teacher at Lenoir Community College and
then at Lejeune High. Mike then worked as science/math coordinator for
CLDS continuing to encourage hands-on science in the elem. schools.
During this time he
was very involved with NCSTA, serving on the board and as President. He
worked with NSTA to bring a regional conference to NC for the first time.
In 1987 Mike served on the board of the NSSA. This inspired him to bring
its philosophy and organization to NC and with the help of others began
the NC Science Supervisors Asso. which is now NCSLA. Mike served as its
president in 1990-91 and has been their executive director and awards
chair since. Mike has served on the boards of NSTA, NMEA, MAMEA and worked
as publicity chair of the state science fair until a few years ago.Since
leaving CLDS
Mike has been science coordinator in Caldwell county, taught at Midway
high school and is now teaching biology at Southeast Community College.
Through his career, Mike has worked tirelessly to improve science education
for the children of North Carolina. Mike, we are better off for all your
efforts. Thank you!
