Distinguished Service to Science Education Award-Middle School

Tonya Hancock- retired from Davis Drive Middle School

Tonya Hancock taught for 31 years, the last 21 in Wake County, 6th grade, with one year as teacher-in residence for Sci-Link at NC State Univ. She always used the latest in hands-on programs and the most up-to-date technology. To ensure that she knew the latest, Tonya was and is constantly out there learning the programs like FAST and GLOBE, both programs for which she became a trainer. She believes so deeply in supporting science education that she has served through NCSTA as chair of several committees and as President in 96-97 and through NCSLA for which she is their incoming president. The workshops and presentations she has made make a long list because she can't say no. She is so good that people keep asking her for her help. Her contributions to science education is N C are impressive and always from the heart. Thanks you Tonya.
