District #2 Outstanding Science Teacher

Shirley Chafin--Trask Middle School

After starting her career as a substitute teacher and a reading tutor, Shirley Chafin got her certification and has become a master teacher of science and math at Trask Middle School in Wilmington. She is always seeking new and inventive ways to teach science and to encourage her students in hands-on experiences. Most recently she has been certified as a Globe instructor. She also works with Science Olympiad, Science Fair, Revisit and Revitalize Technology II and Earth Day Oratorical Contest. Shirley has a gift for reaching students with many different skills levels, providing them with differentiated learning, showing her genuine love, concern and devotion. Her "heart for students" is the key element in her successful teaching. Our thanks to Shirley Chafin for her dedication to science and the children.
