Rick Philipsen teaches
6th grade at Enka Middle School. His love for science and his enthusiasm
for working with students is evident when you walk into his room, partly
from all the equipment and materials accumulated in the room. Every
bit of it tying into his "hands-on science" approach. As a former student
said, "I liked the way he taught us. It got us more involved... Mr.
Philipsen taught a great science class." Rick also has an interest in
new teachers in his school, like helping them figure out SCIS kits and
model rockets. When his students go to another classroom, their good
habits of curiosity, respect, critical thinking skills and questioning
skills are apparent and the hallmarks of success. Mr. P has enriched
so many minds with a knowledge that goes beyond the classroom.
