Phylis Weeks is
a math/science teacher at Dunn Middle School where she exemplifies the
characteristics of a master teacher working beyond the scope of her
classroom to promote quality science instruction. Using hands-on activities,
technology projects, and coastal field trips, students become motivated
and interested in science, many for the first time. Her organizational
skills have helped insure the success of her schools' science fair and
her students' projects in the competition. Their Science Olympiad team
regularly advances to the state competition. And her involvement in
the Empower program has brought the use of CBLs to her school and its
students. We thanks Phylis for her contributions as a creative planner,
a motivated doer, and a strong leader in science education in NC.
