Outstanding Student Teacher - Elementary

Amy Brown, UNC-Greensboro

Amy Brown did her field work and student teaching at General Greene School of Science and Technology in Greensboro. With her love of environmental education she planned and executed many outdoor lessons for her students. She took a group of kindergardeners to a stream where they searched for crayfish, dug for pillbugs and listened for birds. They saw a beaver dam and brought home beaver chips. Older students measured temperatures at the pond in Celsius and Fahrenheit and examined the small animals they caught with magnifiers. Amy found many ways to teach science skills and to develop an appreciation of the outdoors in these young minds. We wish her the best for a wonderful life long career in teaching.
